Meet Josephine, a Renovation Expert
Meet Josephine Jannerup, who works as a construction manager in the Renovation East department at Building Nordics. Renovation projects often bring unexpected challenges, and in this story, Josephine shares her experiences and expertise in handling these complexities.
One of the unique aspects of renovation projects is dealing with discrepancies between project materials/drawings and reality. These situations require project adjustments and can affect schedules, budgets, and quality.
"When renovating, there is always a high risk of finding something unexpected. It could be discovering asbestos in the insulation or that the plumbing drawings provided by the engineer do not reflect how it looks in reality. If/when this happens, the project needs to be adjusted," says Josephine Jannerup, Construction Manager, Building Nordics.
Handling unexpected challenges
Often, renovation projects are like puzzles, where several pieces need to fit together. One such example was in a renovation project in Hellerup, when the hazardous material asbestos was found in unforeseen places in the building.
"Asbestos was found in the roof in some areas and in a thread of insulation used in the joints of the pipes in the bathrooms. It was possible to find a solution so the work could continue without the residents having to move out while the asbestos was removed. They had access to their apartments and mailboxes without coming into contact with the asbestos," explains Josephine Jannerup.
Ensuring quality and safety on site
Every day, Josephine Jannerup is on-site to ensure that everything goes according to plan and to follow up and assist the workers.
"In my role, I ensure that the contractors deliver the correct quality, products, and adhere to the schedule and budget. Basically, it's about monitoring logistics, coordinating different trades, and ensuring that health and safety standards are met," says Josephine Jannerup.
New responsibilities bring opportunities for growth
Since March, she has joined the team in Frederikssund for the Græse Bakkeby project, which involves renovating 402 homes. This ambitious project, to be completed in 2027, includes renovating bathrooms, kitchens, roofs, ventilation, plumbing, and outdoor areas such as fences, tiles, and gardens. Josephine will be responsible for plumbing, ventilation, foundation, and the surroundings of the buildings - new areas for her that she looks forward to tackling.
"It gives me the opportunity to learn something new every day. Renovation projects are complex and require innovative solutions, which makes my work far more engaging than just following a manual," she concludes.
