Gateway or Doorway pages

Gateway (or doorway) pages are a popular but misguided attempt to fool Google's link-popularity evaluation of a website. The more cross-linked a site is, the theory goes, the better the Google page rank.

Google does weigh link-popularity in determining a site's page rank, but not as a raw number. The popularity of each link in the chain is just as important as the number of links. Cross-linking multiple low-ranked sites really doesn't benefit your Google rank.
