Larvikite for Export
Larvikite is an igneous rock found in the area around Larvik in southeastern Norway. Its dense and hard nature makes it suitable for a variaty of consctruction work and road building.
About Larvikite
Larvikite comes in two main varieties: light larvikite and dark larvikite.
- The larvikite we extract in Hedrum and Grinda is light gray (bluish) and coarse-grained, with a density of about 2.7 tons/m³.
- The larvikite we extract from Tjølling is dark gray/black with a density of about 2.7 tons/m³.
Areas of utilization
- Construction work and road building: Larvikite is perfect for surface treatments on roads, airfields, and other high-traffic areas, as well as for construction work and road building. Its dense and hard nature ensures longevity in high-traffic areas, while its high compressive strength allows it to withstand significant loads and pressures.
- Hydraulic engineering purposes: Larvikite is a dense and hard rock, making it resistant to wear and erosion, which is essential for structures exposed to water flow and pressure. Its low porosity reduces water absorption, minimizing the risk of damage from freeze-thaw cycles and water infiltration. The rock's high compressive strength ensures it can withstand significant loads and pressures, making it ideal for dams, levees, and other hydraulic structures.
