“In the construction of Fågelsången school, we have paid close attention to location, landscape and nature. These will be beautiful, round buildings that will harmonize with the surrounding urban environment and the hilly landscape. About 500 pupils in Salem will soon have access to a wonderful place for learning and development,” says Lennart Kalderén (Moderate Party), Chairman of Salem Municipal Executive Board.

Fågelsången school will accommodate 500 pupils from preschool class to grade 9. The building will be constructed on a split level with five floors and a technical installation room in the basement, covering a total area of approximately 7,000 square meters. The floors are circular with a height difference between each semi-circle.

A sports hall will be constructed adjacent to the school. The stands in the sports hall will seat approximately 300 spectators across two levels. A solar power system will be installed on the roof of the sport hall. The school and the sports hall will be environmentally certified according to Sweden Green Building Council 3.0, Silver level.

“NCC is one of Sweden’s leading builders of schools and we are bringing all our experience to this exciting project. The school and the sports hall, which feature an exciting architectural design, will – together with a large schoolyard – provide a good environment for the pupils and school staff. We will utilize many of NCC’s specialist competencies during the project, ranging from landscaping, construction and technical equipment to installation of solar panels and energy-saving measures,” says Matti Virkki, Business Manager, NCC Building Sweden.

Construction is scheduled to start in September 2020, and the school is expected to be complete in the spring of 2023.

The assignment is valued at approximately SEK 320 million and will be registered among orders in the third quarter of 2020 in the NCC Building Sweden business area.
