Driven by results – my role as Commercial Manager
I’m the Commercial Manager for one of NCC’s largest ongoing projects: the new emergency hospital in Västerås. It’s a complex, multi-phase project—and I enjoy being involved from start to finish.
A Multi-phase project with big potential
My role goes far beyond financial management. Together with my team, I’m responsible for contract management, cost control, risk and opportunity analysis, procurement, estimating, insurance, safety, and communication. We help set the conditions for success by defining clear goals for cost, time, quality, and profitability—so our project managers can deliver strong results for both the hospital and the client.
The project is divided into four main parts, each with three different phases. That means multiple transitions and a lot of coordination. For each part, we first establish the framework—then we execute. That’s where our commercial team plays a key role.
Leading through collaboration and insight
I started at NCC in 2007 as an assembly supervisor and have held several roles since—site manager, project manager, and production manager. My experience from large-scale projects, like the expansion of Södersjukhuset in Stockholm, has been invaluable.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is tapping into NCC’s collective expertise. I’ve built a strong internal network and use it actively. For example, when we were setting up the procurement process for Västerås, we consulted with the Hagastaden subway station project to learn from their approach. I also collaborate regularly with colleagues in other hospital projects, like E62 Mälarsjukhuset.
Staying focused and driving results
In a multi-billion-dollar project, staying focused on the right issues at the right time is critical. I can’t be involved in every detail—it’s about distributing responsibility and making sure everyone knows their role. I trust my team to do their part and coordinate when needed.
What I enjoy most is the variety and the opportunity to help steer the project. I work closely with colleagues across NCC, with the client, and with partners to solve challenges together. A large project feels like its own department—we’ve worked together for years, and it’s inspiring to see people grow. I’m driven by results, and there’s a lot that makes this job meaningful.
