NCC secures another major energy refurbishment contract
NCC is to energy upgrade 264 housing units in Tibberupparken in Espergærde. The contract could be worth up to DKK 241 million.
NCC Construction and the housing company Boligselskabet Nordkysten have signed a major refurbishment contract for Tibberupparken. The contract has been divided into two parts. The first stage is worth DKK 38 million. If the developer is satisfied with the partnership with NCC after the first stage has been completed, NCC will continue with the project, which will bring the contract to a total of DKK 241 million. A decision will be made in may 2015.
The construction project in Tibberupparken comprises nine blocks with 264 units, all of which are to be refurbished. Work on these blocks includes installation of new roofs, windows, facades and extended balconies. These changes will both reduce the residents’ energy bills and enhance their quality of life, for example, by admitting more daylight into the residences.
Access to apartments for the disabled with elevators will be built into eight buildings. An extra story with penthouses will be added to two blocks and outdoor areas will have new paths and new private gardens.
Workshops and shared lunchroom
There is always uncertainty in refurbishment projects about the challenges that may be hidden in the buildings, and thus how the refurbishment will proceed. Accordingly, NCC's top priority is to ensure a well-functioning process based on close teamwork.
“To achieve the best results, we emphasize the importance of close teamwork between all parties in the project. We need to go into private homes to perform our work and therefore teamwork is absolutely essential to make sure that the work and any challenges are handled as smoothly as possible,” explains Niels Engberg, Senior Project Manager at NCC Construction. He adds that: “Although we will not start construction work until the end of November, we are already defining joint targets and success criteria for everyone involved in the project. We are doing this in such forums as workshops attended by all parties, including specialist contractors, developers and advisors. And when the work starts, we will use a shared lunch room. This may seem like a trivial thing but it means that we will increase our dialog and get to know each other better. This will make it easier for everyone should the project encounter any challenges.”
Construction will commence on November 20th and the project is scheduled for completion in early 2017.
