NCC’s swan label residential house nominated for an innovation award

A swan label residential building which NCC built for VAV has been nominated for an innovation award by Asuntomarkkinat, an annual housing event. This year the competition focuses on solutions and services that help control and prevent climate change.

– Kaskelantie residential project is the biggest building in Finland so far that has been built according to the stricter swan label criteria. In addition, we made a study about the building, where we compare its carbon footprint to that of three other residential projects. The study showed that the carbon footprint of Kaskelantie was as much as 17% smaller than the comparison buildings, says NCC’s project engineer Ina Suutari.

The carbon footprint of Kaskelantie project was decreased by enhancing energy solutions and by focusing on material efficiency during planning and construction. Sustainability was a key element in other ways too, for example the waste recycling and reuse rate was an astounding 73%.

The competition is arranged for the ninth time and the winner will be revealed on 29 January.
