New technological innovations piloted at OOPS’ construction
The first OOPS office property located in the heart of Espoo is constructed using the latest technology and data from the office construction as never before. NCC and the software company Trimble were able to showcase Trimble’s state-of-the-art technologies in close cooperation.
NCC’s office property OOPS (Oasis of Professionals) in Leppävaara, Espoo, is an entire new city district evolving along the Monikonpuro brook. Situated at the crossing of Ring Road I, main railway track and the future light-rail route Raide-Jokeri, the new building project has a central and easily accessible location.
The first phase of the project was completed in August 2021, and almost all of the 18,500 square metres of office space were handed over to the tenants during the autumn. Ever since Trimble’s headquarters moved in among the first arrivals at OOPS, the project picked up a new pace, offering a wide selection of technological tools and a new approach both to virtual design and construction.

VR headset used at a construction site for the first time
Trimble’s technical competence brought many advantages to all of the stakeholders, such as efficient solutions to meet technical challenges, increased productivity, quick and accurate decisions and totally new means of visualising building service technology designs.
”One of the highlights in this project was the introduction of Trimble Connect for distributing the building information models in NCC’s use long before the construction even started,” Technical Director Kim Nyberg of Trimble says.
This was the first time when the VR headset Trimble HR10 HoloLens 2 was used at a construction site in Finland. Trimble also brought the robotic dog “Spot” to the construction site in co-operation with the Aalto University and Boston Dynamics to really show the way the building industry is currently developing.
NCC appreciates the new teachings about data
The Trimble Showcase is a project that has enabled NCC to gather a lot of experience, competence and practical knowledge.
”As a data-driven company NCC has set the basic target to learn how to utilise the data and bring value and synergies to the clients,” NCC’s Project Manager Markus Pahikkala emphasises.
Now that OOPS’ first development is completed and almost entirely let, it is time to start looking further into the next steps, including new retail and office spaces and a hotel. The works will be continued in line with the BREEAM environmental rating to level Excellent.
