NCC to construct Häggvik interchange on the Stockholm Bypass Link

NCC has been commissioned for the project design and construction of a new interchange on the E4 Expressway at Häggvik, north of Stockholm. The new interchange will be part of the Stockholm Bypass Link and the assignment includes concrete tunnels, bridges and connecting roads to the E4, the Norrortsleden Link and the road network in the area. The order is worth SEK 740 million.

“It is highly gratifying that we have yet again been entrusted by the Swedish Transport Administration to implement an extremely complex and challenging project on one of the busiest stretches of road in Sweden. We have previously remodeled the Rotebro bridges, which are passed by more than 70,000 vehicles per day, and we are now taking on the Häggvik interchange, where we will yet again guarantee that traffic flows will not be impeded while the assignment is being implemented,” says Svante Hagman, Business Area Manager for NCC Infrastructure.

The Häggvik interchange is the northernmost connecting point to the Stockholm Bypass Link, the 21-kilometer link that will connect the northern parts of Stockholm County with the southern parts. In addition to numerous excavation works, NCC’s assignment includes project design and construction of two separate 260-meter-long concrete tunnels, four bridges and a number of retaining walls, fire and noise proofing, electricity, water and wastewater lines, as well as a storm-water pump station and a reservoir.

Construction is scheduled to start in autumn 2016 and construction work on the interchange is estimated to take approximately five years.

The order will be registered during the second quarter of 2016 in the NCC Infrastructure and NCC Industry business areas.
