NCC’s assignment covers the expansion of the existing depot in Högdalen, which is being built out to make room for the new trains that will be needed when the subway network grows. The new depot will serve trains on the Green and Blue lines.

“NCC has constructed several depots around Sweden, which has provided us with solid know-how and experience in the field. Collaboration is vital to the success of these projects, since subway operations and the rail operator’s services take place 24/7 and cannot be disrupted by construction work. We look forward to playing a part in the expansion of the subway in Stockholm,” says Henrik Landelius, Head of NCC Building Sweden.

The existing depot will be expanded southward at ground level to make room for new parking bays, cleaning bays, graffiti and sanitation bays and a garage. In total, seven buildings will be constructed on the depot site.

Groundwork and pipe and duct diversion are included in the assignment in addition to the construction work. For the Högdalen depot, the expansion will mean an increase in capacity from the current 28 parking bays to a total of 40 trains above ground.

The buildings will have a uniform design in a simple, functional style so that all together they will form a distinct complex surrounding the existing depot. The façades will be brightly colored, with a graffiti-resistant coating.

Project planning will begin immediately, and completion of the depot is planned for the autumn of 2025.

The assignment is valued at approximately SEK 800 million and will be registered among orders in the fourth quarter of 2020 in the NCC Building Sweden business area. The construction contract will be carried out in collaboration with NCC Infrastructure.
