NCC to upgrade two harbors in Northern Norway

NCC is to conduct improvement work on the harbors in Hammerfest and Forsöl in Northern Norway on behalf of Hammerfest Municipality and the Norwegian Coastal Administration. The assignment involves comprehensive environmental remediation work and upgrading and is scheduled for completion in 2023. The order value is approximately SEK 345 million.

The background to the assignment is an order by the Norwegian Environment Agency to decontaminate the polluted sediment on the seabed in Hammerfest Harbor. The project carries the name Ren hamn (Clean harbor).

NCC’s assignment comprises demolition of the existing quay structure and construction of a new one, establishment of a depository for contaminated material, environmental dredging and capping in Hammerfest Harbor, as well as a deepening of the harbors in both Hammerfest and Forsöl. NCC will conduct the assignment together with its subsidiary Sjöentreprenören.

“This assignment demonstrates NCC’s broad competence. We have extensive experience of handling similar assignments and have our own resources for the work that takes place in water. We look forward to playing a part in the upgrade and improvement of the harbors in Hammerfest and Forsöl,” says Kenneth Nilsson, Head of the NCC Infrastructure business area.

Work will commence as soon as possible and is scheduled for completion in August 2023.

The assignment is a design-build contract and the order value of about SEK 345 million will be registered during the fourth quarter of 2021 in the NCC Infrastructure business area.
