“The Mon waterworks will play a central role in securing the water supply in Gävle and Älvkarleby. This major infrastructure investment will establish a robust and sustainable water system in the region. NCC has extensive experience of constructing similar facilities, which is a key strength in a project of this scale,” says Kristina Ekholm, Department Manager, Water, at Gästrike Vatten.
Several parallel initiatives are already in progress to strengthen the water supply in the region, including new transfer pipelines between Skutskär and Gävle. At the heart of this undertaking is the new Mon waterworks, which will play a central role in the region’s long-term water supply system.
NCC will now commence construction of the waterworks and the associated external facilities, such as groundwater recharge systems and wells. The project includes the installation of advanced treatment technology and places high demands on operational reliability. NCC’s specialist know-how in water treatment will ensure a robust facility that meets the future needs of the region.
“In this critical project, collaboration and a long-term approach will be decisive. Thanks to NCC’s specialist know-how in water treatment and advanced water and wastewater facilities, we can build a robust and reliable facility together with Gästrike Vatten that will strengthen the region’s water supply far into the future,” says Tomas Brannemo, Head of NCC Infrastructure.
The project is now entering the production phase with construction scheduled to start in early April. The waterworks is expected to be commissioned in 2028.
The order value is approximately SEK 650 million and will be registered in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the first quarter of 2026.
