NCC completes Floravägen retirement home in Fagersta
NCC has been commissioned by Fagersta Municipality and Norra Västmanlands kommunalteknikförbund (NVK) to complete the construction of the Floravägen retirement home in Fagersta. The project comprises a retirement home with 100 residential suites, a kitchen, cafeteria and common rooms as well as earthworks and a civil defense shelter. The project is a turnkey contract in partnering form with an order value of approximately SEK 160 million.
NCC has been conducting an inventory and investigation since the end of March to price and enable completion of the Floravägen retirement home. The project is being taken over following the bankruptcy of Serneke earlier this year. At the time of the takeover, the roof and facades were largely completed. For the interior, completion of some of the room layouts, installations, finishes and furnishings remains.
“We look forward to restarting construction and completing the Floravägen retirement home together with NCC. The most important thing is now to complete the project. With NCC on board as the new partnering contractor, we can now look forward and ensure that this will be a retirement home to be proud of,” says Åsa-Märta Sjöström, Chair of the Fagersta Municipal Executive Board.
The Floravägen retirement home consists of a building in the shape of a resting butterfly and has been designed by Winroth’s architects with two courtyards together with a glass roofed central atrium. In the project’s investigation phase, NCC has conducted an inventory of previously completed work and prepared a new indicative cost and schedule as well as new construction documents.
“NCC has constructed many similar projects and comes to this assignment armed with important experience from other retirement homes. Our partnership with NVK allows us to maintain close and open dialogue with quick decision-making processes, which is a considerable advantage for such a project given the importance of speed following a break in construction,” says Anders Lindkvist, Production Manager, NCC Building Sweden in Fagersta.
The order value is approximately SEK 160 million and will be registered in the NCC Building business area in the second quarter of 2025. NCC will commence the construction in the second quarter of 2025 and the retirement home is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026.
