NCC initiates preparatory groundwork for LKAB in Gällivare, Sweden

NCC has been commissioned by LKAB to begin preparatory groundwork ahead of the construction of a new sorting plant at LKAB’s facility in Vitåfors, Gällivare. The order value amounts to approximately SEK 200 million.

NCC and LKAB have previously entered into a partnering agreement for the construction of the new sorting plant. The new facility will be built adjacent to the existing plant, covering an area of approximately 24,000 square meters. NCC is now initiating groundwork activities while planning and design work continues.

“The initial works will ensure the necessary conditions for LKAB to replace the existing sorting plant with one that is adapted to future operations in terms of work environment, technology, and capacity,” says Mathias Wärja, Project Director at NCC.

The scope includes removal of topsoil and rock excavation to make room for the new sorting plant, as well as other foundation and earthworks required to enable construction start.

The project is being carried out within NCC Green Industry Transformation, and the order value of approximately SEK 200 million will be registered in the third quarter of 2025 in  the segment “Other and eliminations.”
