Asphalt production with lower CO2-emissions

At NCC, we produce asphalt with lower CO2-emissions compared to traditional production methods.

At NCC we continuously work to develop, improve and optimize within three crucial areas in asphalt production that cut greenhouse gases

1. Cutting the use of fossil fuels

We choose energy types that minimize the carbon footprint and the use of fossil fuels in asphalt production. We increasingly use wood pellets, tall oil pitch and green electricity to replace oil. For example, wood pellets help eliminate almost all CO2 emissions at our asphalt plants

2. Higher energy efficiency

You may be familiar with warm mix asphalt (WMA/LTA). We have developed our  own way to reduce energy in asphalt production, a patented foaming technique that lets us produce asphalt at a lower temperature, which leads to a lower  energy consumption.

3. Saving resources

NCC is leading the way in applying reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) to asphalt production. Since more than ten years, we are systematically developing and increasing the use of RAP in our asphalt plants. In addition to RAP, our asphalt  may include other recycled stone materials and recycled cement.
