Corona-adjusted Health & Safety week at NCC

For the sixth consecutive year, NCC conducts a Health & Safety week, where all employess can contribute to an improved work environment. This year’s Health & Safety week is adjusted to be do-able despite the current Corona pandemic.

Digitization and computerized work methods lead to better and safer work environment

Christian Køhler-Johansen, Health and Safety Manager at Building Denmark, is a well-known face among the employees of NCC’s projects in Denmark. Here, he describes his work and how NCC’s digital OHS reporting system and visits to projects go hand in hand in efforts to strengthen the work environment at all of NCC’s worksites.

Staffing company Safida Montage to be phased out

Demand for staffing services in the projects has fallen in recent years. More and more the projects are using subcontractors. On the back of this development, NCC’s staffing company Safida Montage will be phased out. It has approximately 30 employees.

Project manager thanks to internal training

My name is Joel Ahlqvist and I'm project manager for the Häggvik interchange. I previously attended one of the programs at the Project Management Academy, which was established a few years ago in order, as they describe it, to develop our ability to lead and run projects more successfully. And today I'm working as project manager for one of NCC's major civil engineering projects.

NCC starts construction of three Swan Ecolabel apartment buildings in Espoo, Finland

At the beginning of the year, NCC will start the construction of three apartment buildings for Espoon Asunnot and Asuntosäätiö in Karakallio, Espoo, which will apply for the Swan Ecolabel. The total value of the contracts is around 20 MEUR.

NCC to start construction of Papirøen

NCC has received planning permission and can now begin the complex large-scale construction of Papirøen together with the development company CØ P/S. The order was first communicated in 2019 and the project is expected to be completed in 2024.

NCC tests lignin for greener asphalt

NCC and RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) have commenced collaboration to test the renewable raw material lignin as a binding agent in asphalt. The project is part of NCC’s efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and dependence on fossil products.

NCC launches updated sustainability targets

In connection with NCC’s Capital Markets meeting on November 18, NCC launched updated sustainability targets. The updated targets for 2021 and onwards are focused on Climate & Energy and Health & Safety.

Seven years with the Dome of Visions, 2013–2020 

For seven years, the NCC Dome of Visions has been a meeting place for dialogue and debate on innovation and sustainable development at various locations in the Nordic countries, most recently in Gothenburg. The project has been a platform for hundreds of seminars, exhibitions, meetings and talks. NCC recently sold the Dome of Visions in Gothenburg and an interesting and inspiring project has come to an end. The new owners, Nilsson Energy Group, will take over the building, which will continue to be a meeting place for sustainable development, with a particular focus on green hydrogen solutions. 

OOPS office project is designed and built striving at BREEAM Excellent environmental rating

Buildings A and B at the OOPS office site are rising rapidly in the Leppävaara district of Espoo, greater Helsinki area. The OOPS Campus was designed from the early planning stages according to the sustainability requirements of the international environmental rating BREEAM Excellent.

2020 marks the fifth year that NCC conducts a Health and Safety week throughout the entire organization. The Corona pandemic has made certain adjustments to the program necessary – but has at the same time proven the importance of the topic.

Novel way to build at OOPS site in Leppävaara – NCC’s and Trimble’s joint project uses state-of-the-art digital tools

One of the largest property development projects in the metropolitan area is underway in the Hatsinanpuisto area of Leppävaara. The first building to rise in this area developed by NCC is Trimble’s headquarters which means a joint expedition to testing and using new digital construction tools.

NCC’s climate footprint continues to shrink

NCC is well on its way to achieving its climate target, to halve emissions from its own production by 2020. At mid-year, measurements showed a decrease in emissions of 42 percent since 2015. The outcome is followed up on a full-year and off-year basis, where the half-year result is usually somewhat higher as the asphalt operations are not run for full capacity during winter.

NCC and Volvo develop new service for excavation material that offers high productivity and less climate impact

NCC and Volvo Trucks have jointly developed a digital service to increase the efficiency of loading and removal of excavation rubble. The service is now being tested at NCC’s worksite at the Centralen subproject of the West Link tunnel project and will eliminate the need for thousands of truck journeys and reduce CO2 emissions by a thousand tons.

NCC continues to reduce its climate footprint

A headquarters district of international standard to be built in Ruoholahti combining the environment with service culture in an entirely new way

Deloitte will bring its Finnish headquarters and over 700 employees to the We Land building to be completed in the K. A. Fagerholm Square in the Ruoholahti district of Helsinki in 2022. The target set for We Land, a concept developed by NCC, is to upgrade the Ruoholahti district into one of Helsinki’s most attractive areas. The building is designed to meet the exceptionally high BREEAM rating of Outstanding.

NCC has partnered up with CHAOS to be on pulse of the Ruoholahti residents, frequent area users, and workers to build the most sustainable and innovative business and co-creation hub in Helsinki – We Land. CHAOS supports project’s digitalisation by bringing forward demographics, and citizens’ sentiments.

NoDig is unbeatable – not least for the climate

The name NoDig doesn’t tell the whole truth. Of course we have to dig – but much less than with other methods. It is quick, efficient, cheap – and much better for the climate.

Breakthrough in the spectacular project Eysturoy Tunnel on the Faroe Islands

On Friday 7 June, NCC celebrated its breakthrough in the sub-sea Eysturoy Tunnel’s 11.2 km long main branch which, on completion, will cut journey times to the capital Tórshavn from many locations on the Faroe Islands.
