The Helsinki district of Ruoholahti’s maritime location and its history inspired architect Juha Mäki-Jyllilä when he started designing the We Land office building in 2018: “From the start, our aim was architecture that suits its surrounding urban setting dominated by large buildings, but gives it a new, fresh look.”
I seized the opportunity, turned my job into an adventure and swapped Finland for Gothenburg. It’s not all been plain sailing – there have been some challenges with the language, culture and colleagues. But I haven’t regretted a single day since I grabbed this unique opportunity.
After studying for five years in Uppsala, my interest in sustainability was my way into NCC. After working with EPD mapping for a year, I’ve been a Supervisor at NCC Stenmaterial in Gävleborg since August 2022. And at the turn of the year, I’ll be taking over as Site Manager in Dalarna. What a journey it’s been!

NCC developed the former KY Building in the Kamppi area of Helsinki into an office building with modern spaces. The carbon footprint of the current property called Kulma21 was calculated based on realised data and compared to that of a similar new building which could have been constructed in the same site. As a result, some interesting data were acquired as to whether or not the existing building was worth demolishing or renovating.
NCC's construction site Project Boost C5 in Vallila, Helsinki, has won the Finnish Construction Site of the Year competition organized by the construction magazine Rakennuslehti. Boost C5 is an office building to be used by Nordea, and the project is commissioned by global real estate developer Pembroke.

In 2021/2022 I was lucky enough to attend a leadership course together with colleagues from different parts of NCC. It was an exciting chance to learn more about the different business challenges and the opportunities NCC is facing. The course was also an important reminder that our ability to develop ourselves and learn from each other is the biggest advantage NCC has in the construction industry.
