NCC to construct school and preschool in Helsinki

NCC has been commissioned by the City of Helsinki to refurbish and upgrade a heritage-listed elementary school and a preschool in central Helsinki. The order value is approximately SEK 170 million.

The schools are housed in a building whose oldest sections date back to 1844. The building was converted into a school in the 1980s and has not undergone any significant refurbishment since then. NCC’s contract includes replacing the ground-floor structure, installations and ceilings, as well as renovating windows, interior finishes and facades. The outdoor environment will also be renovated. The schools are located in an area designated as a cultural heritage site.

“Renovating and upgrading historic and heritage-listed buildings is one of the most challenging types of refurbishment projects. Our ambition is to develop healthy, safe and functional spaces for future users while preserving the buildings’ original character. NCC has extensive experience of delivering similar complex projects of this kind,” says Jarkko Heinonen, Head of Renovations, NCC Building Nordics in Finland.

Refurbishment will commence in early 2027 and is scheduled for completion by late 2028.

The project has an order value of about SEK 170 million and will be registered in the NCC Building Nordics business area in the fourth quarter of 2026.
