NCC signs SEK 1.9 billion contract with Bane NOR

NCC and Bane NOR, the state-owned company responsible for the Norwegian national railway infrastructure, have signed an agreement to convert the Drammen railway station area in Norway. The project is highly complex in terms of the planning, logistics and coordination of several technically challenging elements. The order value amounts to approximately SEK 1.9 billion.

NCC’s assignment involves extending the Drammen railway station area. Work will include building platforms, pedestrian underpasses, a waterfront promenade and parts of a new city bridge spanning the track area.

“I am delighted that we have signed an agreement with Norwegian contractors with whom we already have a great relationship and close collaboration. We have also noted that NCC’s environmental ambitions are well aligned with Bane NOR’s sustainability targets,” says Stine Ilebrekke Undrum, EVP Construction at Bane NOR.

The project is part of Bane NOR’s venture “New double track Drammen-Kobbervikdalen” and is part of the InterCity initiative. An extensive development of the railway in eastern Norway is under way, which will provide one and a half million inhabitants shorter travel times and more departures.

“We have two ongoing railway projects together with Bane NOR and we look forward to further broadening our collaboration. The project will be conducted while the railway is still in operation, thus setting high demands for excellent coordination, planning and logistics which suits us well,” says Kenneth Nilsson, Business Area Manager, NCC Infrastructure.

The work will commence in September 2021 and is expected to be completed at the end of 2025.

The assignment is a design and build contract and the order for SEK 1.9 billion will be registered during the second quarter of 2021 in the NCC Infrastructure business area.
