Under the umbrella name “Framtidsbygget”, the hospitals in Hudiksvall and Gävle will be modernized in order to provide the best health and medical care also in the future. The refurbishment and extension of Hus 60, the entry building to Gävle Hospital, is now being initiated. The project will be the first construction project within the scope of Framtidsbygget in Gävle.

“I’m delighted that we can now start the construction work. This is a crucial investment in modern premises that will enable a good work environment for our employees as well as a safe and secure environment for our patients,” says John Dahlgren, construction project manager for Gästrikland, Region Gävleborg.

NCC’s assignment covers the new construction of six floors in an existing building as well as a helipad on the roof. The refurbishment and extension of Hus 60 will make the premises more flexible, and better suited to modern medical care and future technological development. Additionally, the new helipad will improve conditions for transportation to and from the hospital. The construction of Hus 60 has been designed to meet the requirements for a Miljöbyggnad Silver rating.

NCC is an expert at complex hospital construction and previous new constructions, refurbishments and extensions completed by the company include Nyköping Hospital, Ryhov County Hospital in Jönköping, Mälar Hospital in Eskilstuna and Northern Älvsborg County Hospital.

“At NCC, there are many specialists in hospital construction and we have solid collective experience from projects similar to our assignment at Gävle Hospital. Since we are working in partnership, we can contribute our competence right from the start and help to ensure that Gävle Hospital can meet future care needs,” says Henrik Landelius, Head of NCC Building Sweden.

Work will begin immediately and completion is expected in the summer of 2026. The hospital will be fully operational during the construction work.

The assignment, worth about SEK 430 million, will be registered among orders during the fourth quarter of 2023 in the NCC Building Sweden business area.
