“Constructing the new Håsten school together with NCC is exciting and challenging in a positive way. The project is an initiative being taken by the municipality to meet the needs of a growing Varberg. Once completed, the school will have capacity for 850 pupils aged 6–16 years,” says Michael Samuelsson, Project Manager, Varbergs Fastighets AB.

NCC will build a new, state-of-the-art school in Håsten. The school will be built adjacent to the existing Håsten school, which will be in use during construction and demolished following completion. The Pingvinen swim center, which NCC completed in 2021, is located next to the new school.

The assignment comprises the construction of a new elementary school for 750 pupils aged 6–16, a special-needs elementary school for 100 pupils aged 6–16, and a sports hall with three sports areas. NCC’s assignment also encompasses landscaping and the outdoor environment for school activities, demolishing the existing school, building a civil defense shelter and increasing the number of parking spaces. The project will be environmentally certified in accordance with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel for climate-smart buildings.

“NCC is highly experienced in the construction of schools. When we are involved from an early stage – as was the case in this project – we can add valuable knowledge throughout the construction process and, in cooperation with Varbergs Fastighets AB, can take decisions that can further improve the school. I’m delighted that we once again have the opportunity to contribute to the development of Varberg,” says Henrik Landelius, Head of NCC Building Sweden.

The project is scheduled to commence in spring 2023 and be completed in autumn 2026. The assignment is a turnkey contract and the order value of about SEK 530 million will be registered during the first quarter of 2023 in the NCC Building Sweden business area.
