NCC to construct Granåsen sports facility on behalf of Trondheim Municipality

NCC and Trondheim Municipality have signed an agreement to construct the new Granåsen winter sport venue in Trondheim, Norway. The project has been optimized in an initial phase during which the parties worked together to devise suitable technical solutions and plans for the implementation phase. The order is worth approximately SEK 470 million.

The project consists of extensions, improvements and new construction by both ski jumping hills, a new shooting range, a new ski bridge, a new judge tower, new grandstands, a new arena with a shooting range integrated with the grandstand, a new chairlift, and earth and groundworks in connection to the slopes and access roads.

“Sensible and robust have been our watchwords in the project development of a facility that will be sustainable when up and running, for everyday use and in major events. We are grateful for the cooperation thus far and are pleased that we can start construction work,” says Mona Åsgård, Project Manager at Trondheim Municipality.

In the planning phase, NCC has made extensive use of digital tools and 3D modeling in communication within the project organization and with external parties, such as local, national and international ski jumping organizations, with the aim of providing all stakeholders with a coherent picture of the project.

“Through close collaboration and the use of digital tools and 3D modeling, we have optimized the ski jumping hills and the construction process itself. At the Granåsen facility, we have taken the requirements of the athletes of one of the most spectacular sports in the world into consideration while we are also adapting it for other users. We would like to thank Trondheim Municipality for the trust it has placed in us and look forward to getting started on this project,” says Roger Nygård, Head of the Building division at NCC Norway.

The project has ambitious environmental targets, and the aim is to certify it in accordance with CEEQUAL, an international sustainability rating system for infrastructure projects.

“We are very pleased with the work we have carried out thus far with the developer and the rest of the team. This has enabled us to optimize the project’s overall environmental targets, and we have prior experience of CEEQUAL at NCC,” says Per Jonsson, Head of the Infrastructure division at NCC Norway.

The ski jumping hills are to be completed by the 2022/2023 winter season and the entire winter sport venue is scheduled for completion by summer 2023. The project is valued at approximately SEK 470 million, half of which will be registered among orders in the Building Nordics business area and half in the Infrastructure business area in the second quarter of 2021.
