NCC initiates next phase of construction on LKAB’s sorting plant in Gällivare, Sweden

NCC has signed an agreement with LKAB for the next phase of construction of the new sorting plant in Vitåfors, Gällivare. The order value of the contract is approximately SEK 900 million.

“We are now moving on to the next phase of the project and commencing construction of the facility. We will be working in an active industrial environment that demands high standards in terms of logistics, safety and production,” says Helena Hed, Head of NCC Green Industry Transformation.

A sorting plant is an industrial facility where the run-of-mine ore is mechanically separated from waste rock. The new sorting plant is being built adjacent to the existing facility and will play a key role in LKAB’s efforts to develop tomorrow’s mining and processing operations in Gällivare.

NCC began preparatory groundwork at the site in the spring, and will now undertake the next phase of the project. The work will be carried out while the existing sorting plant remains in operation, placing high demands on planning, coordination and occupational health and safety.

Work will commence immediately and will proceed in parallel with the groundwork initiated in the spring of 2026. The new sorting plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.

The project is being carried out by the NCC Green Industry Transformation business area. The order value of approximately SEK 900 million will be registered during the second quarter of 2026 in Other.
