To improve road safety and accessibility, the Swedish Transport Administration is converting road 25 in southern Sweden into a 2+1 road with a median barrier. The existing road 25 will be widened and about 4 kilometers in total will be converted into new 2+1 road. NCC’s contract also includes two interchanges, one traffic control point, two commuter car parks, bus stops and the construction and reconstruction of connecting public and private roads.

“Road 25 is congested. There are commuters in the area, cars continuing on to the E4 motorway, and quite a lot of freight transport. It’s also an accident-prone section. That’s why it feels great to be finally starting this improvement project that will make the road much safer for all users,” says project manager Friderike Rang from the Swedish Transport Administration.

In addition to widening the road, the Transport Administration wants to close unsafe connections along the section and construct two new interchanges – Alvesta Väst and Hjortsberga.

“It’s complex and places high demands on us as well as motorists when we are working on or adjacent to the road, but we’ve done it many times before. We know the region well and have carried out similar projects for the Transport Administration before, such as the 26/47 road outside Jönköping just a few years ago,” says Kenneth Nilsson, Business Area Manager, NCC Infrastructure.

The roadworks will start in September 2021 and are scheduled for completion by about mid-2023. The contract amount is approximately SEK 250 million and the order will be registered in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the third quarter of 2021.
