NCC signs contract for first phase of North Zealand’s new super hospital

NCC signs contract for the first phase of the construction of the New North Zealand Hospital with the Hovedstaden region of Denmark. The contract for the first phase of the project is valued at about SEK 1.7 billion of the total contract assignment of SEK 3.4 billion.

“We are delighted to continue the good cooperation we have with our customer, the New North Zealand Hospital. Building a hospital of this size is well suited to us and we are looking forward to beginning this contract,” says Palle Bjerre Rasmussen, Head of NCC Building Nordics in Denmark.

The New North Zealand Hospital is the last of the “super hospitals” to be built in Denmark. The combined project team, consisting of the New North Zealand Hospital, NCC and the main consultants, have used the period after the summer break to identify the best technological and methodological solutions and NCC can now begin the first phase of the actual construction and civil engineering work.

“You need a committed contractor to build such a large hospital for the people of North Zealand and NCC has a key role in ensuring the hospital becomes something special. We have great expectations of NCC. This is particularly true as regards running an efficient and digital construction process, where we can follow the timetables and budget in detail to enable us to make the right decisions together. This is how we will build a special hospital for our inhabitants,” says Henrik Schødts, Project Manager for the New North Zealand Hospital.

The contract signed applies only to phase one, which encompasses construction planning as well as ground, wastewater, concrete and steel works. In parallel, NCC will be responsible for tendering and procurement of façades and roofs and a service center for the hospital (phase two). Lastly, NCC is to be responsible for tendering and procurement of the interior, different types of installations as well as landscaping work (phase three). The condition for including phase two and phase three in NCC’s role as main contractor is that the procurement and project management can be kept within the developer’s budget, which NCC and the developer will evaluate during the next phase.

The construction of the hospital will be the largest single construction project ever in North Zealand. The low, four-story building is shaped as a four-leaf clover and extends over 118,000 square meters. The entire project is expected to extend over four years. Orders within the framework of the project will be registered on a continuous basis during the project period in the NCC Building Nordics business area.
